Ive built a new cupola, i never had one before just an open gable. I was just wondering the easiest way to get it open. I have a rope and pulleys to close but the doors fit pretty tight and i have to push them open. Jeff

I have my doors tipping out just a little under the eves, on ropes and pulley you can't have a to tight of a fit on your doors.

Is there some way you could have a spring or two trying to push/pull the doors open so the rope would always have tension and need to be tied off. Or some type of weight at the top so the doors want to tip down?

I'm going to try a spring or maybe a bracket that can pull the doors open with a second rope. Jeff

We just finished building our cupola and it looks like we might have to keep a pusher stick to open the doors. They way I look at it is you are only going to open and close the doors a few times in a season.

We have used a 10' piece of 1/2" metal conduit as a pusher stick for our cupola doors for two years without any problem. One quick push on each door when you are going to boil and they are open. Plus...now we have a nice stick around to keep people out of the sugarhouse that we don't want in there!!!
