So I called Mason today to order a new evaporator for my birthday and apparently he is done taking orders for the year. I am so bummed as I really wanted a 2x3 with a flat pan. I was not to impressed with the leader half pint but it might be my only alternative.

Thanks
Jeremy

Im not sure what your budget is but Smokylake maple offers a full pint that fits the halfpint arch. I has a thermo and float box and they are claiming 15 to 20 gallons an hour. Jeff

Thor in Canada has pretty good prices. I ordered pans from them in December last year and picked them up in early February.

There is also a guy in St Albans VT that advertises on Craigslist.

I have a full pint pan from Smokey Lake. It is well made and I like it. I have a modified half pint arch and i added AOF. I extended the arch because I wasn't happy with the boil in the front syrup section. It works best to finish off on propane as syrup backs up if you wait to finish any quantity on the evaporator. Either that or take small draws. I have never got 20 GPH, but I regularly get 12-14. My best rate has been 16-17 GPH. Of course a lot controls GPH, wood quality, firing frequency and more. I would say a safe estimate without added air and average firing and wood quality would be 10-13 GPH. Compared to the stock half pint that is light speed as my old half pint flat pan on it's best day done 7GPH. Leader makes a hybrid pan for the half pint arch now, that has drop flues like the Smokey Lake pan. I run 100-120 taps on mine and do not have an R.O.

You could try Bascoms in Hew Hampshire. They show the Mason 2x3 in the newest catalog. They may have it in stock at the store.

I've got a smokeylake maple 2x4 did 17gph last season. And I'm really happy with it. Bought it this time last year had it in a week. I'm pretty sure they have a 2x3 option. And they have free shipping.

acafro, do you have the Smokeylake hybrid 2x4 pan to get 17gph?

No, its a 2x4 continuous flow flat pan. I've got air under fire and consistently get 15-17 gph. I boiled outside last season so the weather played a big roll in my boil rate. Windy days I would get as low as 7-10 gph. But nice days I wss getting 15-17 gph.
