After my single cup drip coffee maker was allowing grounds to get thru or plugging my screen, i tried putting a paper coffee filter in the bowl, this works great, coffee with no grounds and a screen filter not getting plugged. I store my syrup in 5 gal cont. filtered once at the evap., when i am trying to reheat and bottle i cannot get syrup without having sand in the bottle after it has set.i am filtering again at 185-190 deg. would coffee filters work for syrup, i realize i could try it next, just wondering if i should still be thinking of different ways to filter or if this would work ?

short answers:
You may be generating more niter when you reheat, unless you are using indirect heat like a water jacket bottler.
Even hot syrup won't go through a paper coffee filter very well.

What are you filtering your syrup with now? Coffee filter would be worse Han an Orlon filter for niter.

I filter off my evap with previous years paper cone pre filters. They are cleaned every use so they are still good. I then wait untill I accumulate 5 gallons of syrup. Bring it up to proper density then through 2 paper cone prefilters and 1 Orlon filter. Keep them hot and damp by hanging them over the evap for an hour or two before filtering. Bottle right away while syrup is still filtering. So no reheat is needed. seems to work for me.ive never had sediment on any of my jars. I bottle everything in glass. I'm hoping to get a water jacket filter/bottler this year to be able to do more then 5 gallons at a time.
