Thinking of putting mainline from woods to sugar house.... 1200' would have to be taken down every year.... Was wondering if anyone has made something to wind mainline pn

My dad used a reel of an old allis chammers chopper and would reel up 2600' of 1" mainline every year that was in a hay field. Worked well but I would add a hydraulic motor to power it. Gate valve to adjust speed would be a must.

When I was a kid, my father used a spool from the power company. He would bolt it on the rear wheel of a tractor using some threaded rod I think. He would then jack up that side of the tractor, and set the brake for the opposite side. He could put the tractor in first gear, and at a low idle, it would wind the 2000' of 1 inch main line pretty well. As a kid I remember being able to keep up with it pretty well, but that was 25 years ago.

That's got me thinking. It wouldn't be too difficult to build a winder that runs off pulleys and a gas or electric motor. Mount it on a trailer or wagon of sorts.( I've got an old boat trailer) Then you could secure the leading end of the line and unspool it in the fall by towing the trailer with a truck or 4 wheeler. I have to take down several hundred ' of 1.5" every season across a hay field and it's a real pain.
What kind of slope do you have? Can you burry it? We used to burry them across fields where there was slope enough to daylight it at the bottom end. That way we didn't have to roll them up.

If you're asking me, I have only 2% to get to the barn and the line is 10' above the field in spots.
