Not to clean the fire side of pan just outside the entry way to your home!!

What a mess!! Our white Lab is now closer to black. This mess will be around for a while. The stuff is everywhere.

Also when cleaning the fire side of the flues, it HELPS to have the smoke stack cover OPEN!!! just that little bit of natural draft will help get the soot away! I had it everywhere the other night, and when soot gets wet it's a MESS!!

I was just about to come in the house tonight to clean out the sand in my syrup pan, when I noticed all the soot on my leg...so I go out in the driveway and clean off the pan (both fire side and syrup side) Soot everywhere...felt a little bit like the Cat in the Hat Comes Back story when the pink spots just go everywhere...

luckily we have a Bernese Mtn Dog who is mostly black...

Any ideas on how to clean this mess?

I am thinking of trying to use a snow shovel to scoop a lot of the snow/soot away then using some Dawn dish soap on the area.

This mess is everywhere now and it seems to be spreading.

And then there is the Wife!! She just looks at me with this little grin and shakes her head!
