Well this is about a year late seeing as I started this build about a year ago now. Seeing as the majority of my ideas came from here I figured I would add it to the mix to give some others ideas, and some feedback on what did and did not work for me

Here are some pictures of the process.

Some things that didn't work well:

I left barely enough room to place fire bricks in the firebox, I would recommend using 1 1/2" angle iron instead of 3/4" in the fire box leaving plenty of room for brick.
I used 1/8" rivets for the skins and found out the stress of the angle iron expanded quickly shearing the rivets 3/16" rivets seem to work great.

I use a barrel stove door which worked out very well last season, but would like to upgrade the door at some point to something a little more tight and a tad larger.
added some adjustable legs using 5/8' threaded rod and some nuts so each leg could be adjusted individually so I could level it out in the driveway.
I also made an axle for some wheels for it with some left over angle iron and round stock to get it in and out of the shed.
I used a squirrel cage blower to add AUF. (a must have IMHO)

if anyone has improvement suggestions or questions I'd love to hear them both!

I think you made yourself a great looking evaporator. Congratulations.

Nice Job Acafro! neat and clean looking. I made my door about 16 by 16 for my 2 X 3 and happy I did for easy loading. Jay

Thanks!

What did you make your door out of? I am thinking I want to make a door out of angle iron so I can seal it closed a bit better and get some insulation in it as well.

Great looking arch! Any idea what sort of evaporation rate you are getting with this design?

With the Smokey Lake Maple 2x4 flat pan I was getting an average 12-17 gph depending on the weather. I was outside last season so windy days it would go as low as 10. But I was getting as high as 17 on real nice days.

Planning on 100 taps this year on natural vacuum, so I'm shooting for a new pan for next season to increase my rate.
