Switching my 2.5x10 drop flue to oil for next year. I'm looking at carlin 601 or Beckett c800 burner. I'm wondering about noise level from burner, ease of maintaining, reliability ,etc... Priced a carlin 601 with fw Webb at $1,200. Any opinions are welcomed. Thanks.

The Carlin's are good reliable easy to work on burners. Myself I would definitely get a Carlin 701 as the high / low fire is nice to start up with when the pans are cold and also to quickly reduce heat output if too thick or low level without shutting down burner and losing gradient in pans which drop flues will do.
I switch mine to low fire when reversing and flue pan never stops boiling.
Plan on making an insulated box around burner as all high efficiency burners will be loud.
Hope you are feeling well Herb.

I have a 701 on my 3x12. Bought it used. Worked very well. I do not find it loud. We can comfortably carry on a conversation next to the front pan. I did put a plastic 55 gallon drum over it and it reduced noise some.
