Hello Folks, I'm getting ready to convert my old arch to AOF/AUF . I've studied all the posts on here
and they are a terrific help. I do ,however have two questions.
The first and maybe the most important is.
How far are your grates from the bottom of the syrup pan?
Currently mine are only 18", and at that height I have way too much heat on the syrup pan.
I believe I read somewhere around 22" to 24" is correct.
I think I can get 22" fairly easy, not sure about 24", my arch is not raised up on firebrick or anything.
Second; I'm looking at two different fans.
The first is 1hp 1000cfm 8.5"water
The Second is 1/2 600 cfm 7.8" water
I'm not sure if 600 cfm is quite enough for a 30" wide evaporator, but it seems like 1000cfm might be overkill.
It might need to be choked down too much.
I'm also wondering about my ramp, but feel getting the right amount of air should work without altering
the ramp slope(extensive sheet metal work)
Forgot to mention this is a drop flue!

Paddymountain, Not sure where Millmont pa is but I live in north central PA. I just tore apart a intense o fire arch to convert to natural gas. Anyway I have blower, duct work, grates and controls if you might be interested in looking at them to see if they are anything you can use. You can always send me a private message. My grates are around 22'' from bottom of pan.

My grates are 22" under the pan. There is a paper on file at PMRC that explains the whole air over fire process. They have suggested fans for each width of arch. Read that and refer to the Dayton blower they suggest to see how the numbers compare with the 2 you suggest. I may be wrong, but both sound high on the pressure. My poor memory says the pressure needs to be 3-4" WC, but check it out to verify. Also compare the CFM, you want high pressure but not high volume.

I know the pressure is kind of high, they are bounce house fans. you are right that 3-4" is what they call for.
Maybe I need to look a little more for a fan.

Others on here have used bounce house fans for AOF, I just don't know what size or specs.
