I was asked to sell at a farmers market in Mass. They cant find anybody to sell maple this year from Mass.

They are requireing a certificate from the board of health and as far as I understand it, they dont exist for maple.

Has anybody in Mass had to do this, is it common for a farmes amrket or just this one.

Any answers are appreciated.

We need a certificate in Kentucky, though not from the BOard of Health in order to sell syrup at a farmer's market. SInce maple syrup is considered a low risk food item, we only need to register with the state and submit a label. If however I was to be a distributor and sell wholesale, to restaurants, grocery stores, B&B's, etc., then I would need to have a BOH health/sanitary inspection. These are fairly easy and no big deal.

Your county extension agent or the local farmer's market board should be able to help you with the paperwork and permitting process. IN KY, it took me less than an hour to fill out the paperwork and get the ball rolling.
