Does anyone know what the difference is between the Mason 2x4 standard and the 2x4XL other than the XL having a 4 channel pan? His web site doesn't make it very clear.

4 channels and you can draw off either side.

Ron's second year with his xl. He can boil off 125 gallons of sap during the day. He's been very pleased with it.

I was looking at one today at Bill's
. If you look at the back on MY NEW 2X3,:o, the preheater has fire under it. The 2X4 had the same setup.

Looks very nice. I ordered a new 2 x 5 XL from Bill with the new preheater setup and can't wait to boil on it.

That's nice. I have a standard 2x4 with the preheater that just sits on top of the pan, and the preheater is just about useless.

I have the 2x4XL. How does that preheater work? Does it fill to the top with sap, or is there some sort of bottom compartment?

I have the 2x4 XL 2015 model and I agree the "pre heater" is useless. Its basically a storage/feed tank.

I think he said it takes 4-5 gallons. There are no compartments. Just fill it up. Mine may be the first 2x3xl with the new preheater. My arch may be a little longer then previous 2x3xl to make room for the preheater to be on the fire, same as the pan.
2 different ports to feed the pan, drain valve and thermometer port.
