This is for anyone with the Smoky Lake Hybrid 2x4 flue pan. What rate of evaporation are you getting and what type of set up do you have? I'm not looking for "under ideal conditions with match stick firewood split to 2x2 inch size, firing every 6 minutes with 1/2 inch sap depth I get 20 GPH". I'm looking for real world average boiling rates, thank you.

I consistently got 20 with my setup. Home made arch with auf. I had my wood split up between 2x2 or 3x3 pieces 12-18 inches long and firing about every 7-10 minutes. I never really set a timer for the wood loading, just added when I noticed the violent boil slow down which was usually between that 7-10 minute range. My last boil for the year I boiled 50 gallons in 2 hours including start up with a cold pan and shut down. Was very happy with my pan and arch, first year with it

20gph is a good number. I got up to 23gph with a preheater I made.
Now I am up to 30gph with a 2x2 pan in front

22 gph when going full out. I'll be redesigning the arch, adding a smokey lake preheater and new feed pan for 2017. I'm hoping to push 25-30 gph when all set up.

Thank you for the information.
We've had a 2x4 Smoky Lake drop flu hybrid for three seasons now. I burn a mixture of dry oak, maple and birch all split down to about 2x4 inches or so. I fire up every 12-15 minutes or whenever the boil seems to slow down a bit. If I really push it and run the sap depth between 3/4 and 1 inch, we go though 20-22 gal/hr. However, unless I'm way ahead on sap (we tap about 100 trees), I prefer to slow it down, run the sap depth at 1.5 - 1.75 inches and relax a little. Under those circumstances, we are going through 16-18 gal/hr.

We have a smoky lake 2x4' drop flue bought this spring with float box on a homemade oil tank arch. We burned hardwood and jack pine mix of dry wood and figured we were getting 21 gals per hour out of it, outside on patio. It is forced air combustion. Which we are quite happy with!!

Thanks this is the kind of information I'm looking for.
