Hey everyone. I have the oppertunity to buy an oil fired 2x6 coninuous flow with one divider. The floats and arch and pan and burner all included dor $500 canadian. Wondering if this is a good deal. If i were to buy it i think i would try and sell it to have the money to upgrade to a wood fired arch. What do yall think??

Sounds like a finishing pan if it is only 1 divider. Why do you want to downgrade to a wood fired arch?

Hey guys. The only reason is because u have never boiled on an oil fired rig. And i like the ambiance of wood. More work and the kids like doing it

I think the unit he's talking about isn't an "evaporator" like what you were quoted. It sounds like it might be a finisher. Doesn't sound like it has a flue pan.

Alot of evaporators have a flat pan. All of the W.F masons have flat pans. Its an evaporator. It has an arch it has a oil burner on the front of it where the doors wood be on a traditional wood fired arch and it has the flat pan with a divider down the middle with a float box in the back corner

That's interesting that you mention Bill Mason's rigs. I thought he made flue pans, but I guess not anymore. So, yes, all of the evaporators he makes now only have flat pans.
I shouldn't have made it sound like the rig you're considering isn't an evaporator. I just meant that it's not like what seandicare is talking about: a 2x6 with a flue pan and a syrup pan.
If you can get it for $500 Canadian, go for it! Personally, I'm with you on burning firewood. Oil has its place, but for cooking sap on my farm. Also, it's one thing to burn oil in a regular evaporator (with a flue pan), but burning oil under flat pans seems very inefficient.

I was at Mason's shop last spring he was still making flue pans then. Might be he's only making them per order.
