It's not a good idea to add to the injury the tree has already sustained this year. If you tap into the same hole and just go a little deeper, you might get more sap, but judging from your location, it will probably be buddy sap and not make good syrup.

You were right in thinking that the season is over. When the trees have budded the syrup will have a bad off flavor.
