Hello All--

I have a complete newbie question.

We were lucky enough to receive about 7 inches of snow in my neck of the woods last night. Also we have 40 degree days and 20 degree nights. I have noticed some chatter and previous post that the snow will make for a good run.

My question is why does getting snow make for a good run?

Just because adding water to the roots or are there other processes at work

Thanks for your help

Nitrogen is the key naturally

I believe it has more to do with the barometric pressure associated with the storm.
Last night it didn't happen, because the temp went too low.
I have emptied pails at 5 PM, and had them overflowing by daylight during a warm, wet snow event.

I've often wondered about snowpack and sap runs. I'd love to see a study out of UVM or Cornell on the impact of snowpack on a maple season. Based on my observations, winters with decent snow cover seem to have better maple seasons than those without for a number of reasons.

I wonder if making snow in a sugarbush would have any impact on a season with little or no snow like this one.
