My wife's friend was over the other night while I was filtering off about 3 gallons of syrup. I showed her how much junk gets filtered out. I filter off the evaporator then filter again before bottling it. It was all sugar sand and niter. She makes natural soap and creams. I would assume since it is edible that it would be ok to put in a soap? I've been saving it all this year for her. I put it in a big container and put it in the freezer. It stays the consistency of pudding. Will not freeze solid. Has the maple smell and taste and is gritty. Has anyone ever used it for this purpose. I would assume it would go bad if left out and not frozen. But she makes soaps out of goats milk. So there must be a way to keep it from going sour. Would be kinda neat to use the byproduct of syrup for something.

I had the all natural type person stop in one year with a bag of tiny jars. She asked if I would fill them with nicer and in turn she would pay me $20.00 apiece. She used it on her skin. I used the money to buy a good wine.

Hmmm. 20$ a jar. Maybe I will give her the niter this year. Then next year charge her for it. I did notice that when I was washing the filters out and I got it on my hands it dried to like a chaulky film. Didn't notice any age defying effects though.

Back in the days when we had to wash it out of the wool felts my dad would comment that it "builds character".
