I spoke with the guy that took over for Joe at Atlantic RO the other day about some 8"xle's(440s). He said he thought I would need a special adaptor that Joe used to make in order to use them for maple. Is that true or will they replace a standard maple membrane without being adapted? Something about the center hole diameter. Thanks.

He is correct. 8" xle membranes have a larger center hole and you will need an adapter. My seprotech had xle membranes in it when I got it and had plastic sleeves. That have o-rings just like the connector on your plug/connector. I bought new MES membranes this year which have the smaller diameter so I am not using the adapters....for now. I suggest you look at the MES membranes. Suppose to flow better than xle.

So it looks like the xles are going to be a thing of the past if someone else doesn't start fabricating the adaptors. The guy I spoke with said " the design died with him" referring to Joe at Atlantic.

So.... I was just starting to get things rounded up so I could start building an RO. And after reading a lot of past threads the xles were the best thing since sliced bread. But if they take a special adaptor, am I Sol. Or is there another membrane that is more universal? Not trying to steal this thread but I believe it fits well here. Any info appreciated.!

It depends on what you're using for a membrane vessel. If you call atlantic RO or American RO. They sell xle's and vessels. No adaptors needed. Prices are fair too.

Has there been anything heard of someone making adaptors? What are all the bigwigs going to do that bought dozens of membranes from atlantic?

Clayton at MES made adapters for me once for my old RO. Used solid pvc and a lathe. Took like 30 minutes. Definitely not a trade secret

I have used MES membranes for the last 3 years and love them. He sells tons and tons of them

And you don't need adapters for mes membranes.

Correct

He made them for an older Waterloo machine I had.

That was not aimed at you. Just making sure everyone knows. I had to come up with adapters for my 4" xle's years ago.
