I have a WesFab 2x4 arch that has 2 firebox doors (large gap) a bottom ash/draft door and a 6" flue. All of my boiling is outdoors and I find it tricky to find the proper door setting consistently so I've been thinking about adding a blower for a more consistent fire.
I have a Dayton 8C449 blower rated at I believe 130 cfm @ 0 sp that came from an outdoor wood boiler. I'm thinking about mounting in the lower door. The door hinges at the top so the weight of the motor will keep it closed. It is not gasketed, but I'm sure I can rig something up.
My questions:
Is 130 cfm in the proper size range? I should be able to throttle it if necessary or add a speed control.
Am I best to mount it in the lower door and blow up through the grates like designed or in one of the main doors and blow directly on the fire.
