We got some snow today! Still snowing, man did our trees need this they were about to bud. Calling for 20-30 degrees for the next 5 days! We should be able to go another two weeks now.:)

Nice, Most of ours has been dark as well but what a good flavor. I prefer that anyway plus it's great to cook with. Hang in there Shawn I hope the Sap Gods fill our tanks.

i was hoping for this....my trees kept stalling out and buds starting to show.......this might give us another week or 2

Walked the woods this morning with binoculars and found two trees with big buds (pulled taps) and the rest with none. The budding trees were both together and sit in a swampy spot, so I guess that's what pushed them ahead of the rest? It would be great to get some more sap after this freeze. I'm at 70% of last year's haul. I'm sitting at the maple budding line right now here in Southern NH and I think it's 50/50 if the next sap will be good... fingers crossed!

In talking to some of my fellow sugaring people we all are keeping taps in for the next week as our temps drop and most trees have not budded so holding out and hoping for the best

Dr Tim mentioned that a cold spell can kill-off early buds (which are mostly flower buds, as they come before leaf buds) and transform a budded tree back into a sap producer.

Yeehaw, we got another 3" of fresh snow and another 4 on the way. Temps have been 10-20 degrees at night and 30's during the day. Love it!
