Has any one seen an actual price of commercial syrup this year?

Give Bascom's a call to get the current price but I only got $1.25 lb. at the end of January. Buddy and ropey syrup are only bringing $.50 lb. so as soon as mine goes to commercial I'm done. The Canadians are selling commercial real cheap and the exchange rate on the dollar is keeping the prices way down. Bruce won't pay US producers more than what he can buy it from Canada for. He was paying $2.20 per lb. for Golden and Amber at that time too. The top two grades were the same price so no more premium for light syrup either.

I read recently that the price on commercial has dropped so much because a large percentage of what the Quebec Federation has in their stockpile is off-flavoured. There just isn't enough market for it.

Is that a nice way of saying that a large portion of the syrup the federation has in reserve to hold the price up or down is a product nobody really wants or has a use for?

On the positive side, the Canadian $ has recovered some. It's up to U.S. $0.77 today from a low of $0.71 a little while back.
