I was watching the fire in my arch tonight and was wondering how close the ramp of the arch should be to the pan as it exits the firebox?it is about 10 inches right now. The arch is 5 ft long. first 2 ft is the fire box. next 3ft is the arch..... Presently the exit of the ramp to the flue is 1.5 inches from the pan

any advice would be appreciated. Thx

I don't think I am of any position of expertise to take much advice from but our exit ramp is about 3 in from our warming pan. The whole fire box is under the 2x3 evap pan. I would think as long as you get the draft you need you would be ok.

10 inches is a lot of room under the pan, I think. I would think you could blow fire through a 4 or 5 inch space beneath a flat pan.

I just reduced my distance to about 2 inch under the pan. It now boils better, the stack temp went way down, and I fire less. I didn't expect that but it makes me very happy.

Make sure the fire can get plenty of air. Open the door etc...
