I'm trying to understand the pros and cons of using the Cleanspout two piece spout system. I don't see any yet that have 3/16" tubing barbs, but I imagine they will be available next year if not already. What are the pluses?

The advantage of using a two-part spout system (stubby spout + spout adapter) is that it is very quick and easy to change spouts each season (which has been shown to increase sap yield), so tapping can be faster. Sometimes the cost can be lower. The downside is that it is another connection that has the potential to be a vacuum leak. Some combinations of spout/stubby are very hard to separate at the end of the season. Also the stubby is one more piece, one more cost. Not all combinations of stubby and spout adapter will work together.

Thanks. That all makes sense. I see some value in not having to connect the dropline to a new spout each season. I'm assuming that, if I get the kind of adapter that accepts a spout instead of a stubby, I can use just a spout for the first season and then adapters with that spout in subsequent seasons. That would cut down on cost and there are spouts that have a 3/16" barb. But then I would need the tees that accept a spout instead of just a tube.
