That's a pretty good sign the end is near....or is already here (there).

How'd your season turn out.

The bees are bringing in pollen and the red maples have stopped running. My one small sugar maple was still running yesterday.

it is always interesting. some years I have pulled the plug too early thinking the end was there but ended up having several days of good (if not the best) sugaring to be had that I missed. others I am in it and alas, buddy sap... point is, until you get that buddy sap, stay in it!

We had 43 taps on 3/16 on a pretty steep hill. We got at least 700 gallons of sap that started out at 2 1/2 percent and ended at 1. I was not expecting that much. We were using a small modified hobby evaporator, getting 8 - 9 gallons an hour, and we just couldn't keep up. Some of the sap went bad. I decided we better pull the plug when we had to start dumping sap. We made about six gallons, a little on the dark side, but not Grade B. It's sooooo good! We picked up a used 2x6 flat pan for next year. I don't think we will add any more taps until we see how the new rig works.
