I am new to this, so please bear with me. If I put about 10 trees on the same run (making sure I have a slope towards the collection bucket), do I have to leave an open end at the highest Tao, or is it a sealed system. Will I get better production opposed to buckets on each tree?

Do NOT leave an open end, closed system is what you want.
Yes, it will perform better that buckets, no doubt. Make sure you have slope after your last tree tapped towards your collection barrel.

Yes, close the top end or better yet put a vacuum gauge up there so you can see what's happening. And you'll need lots of slope to make it work. I'd guess 15-20 feet minimum but others can give you better numbers than me. The bigger the drop the better however. Mine drops probably 30' with 20 taps give-or-take on each of my three lines and the pull a very good vacuum. I collected 300 gallons on around 55 taps in 36 hours.
