Got 3/4 of my taps in, will finish Sat afternoon. Have 120 of 150 in. Mostly buckets, with a few added this year on tubing to totes. I might actually have a few more to put in if I get these older taps cleaned enough to use.

I got all my 120 buckets on today.A bit of a job tromping trough the deep
wet snow, but I took my time and what a beautiful day to do it. Sap
was running and some were still running at 7 tonight.

We got most of our taps in on the weekend. A buddy came to help for the weekend and we got about 2400 taps done in 2 days. If we'd had a 2nd tapping crew we would have finished.
We only saw a couple drops of sap on Saturday. It ran some yesterday so we turned on one of the vacuum systems and got a little sap. We'll finish tapping either today or tomorrow morning. I expect the first boil will be tomorrow.

That was short lived. Stopped running, too warm at night, not freezing. But
been through it before, it will run when the time comes.

Boiled off the 30 gallon I picked up yesterday, got 2.5 litres of Light. Taste was super, just starting the season, again.

Picked up 75 gallons today, at 1pm.
Trees are running real good right now.
Hope it stay's like this for a week or so.
Tapped 10 more today and ran better then the ones that have been in all season.
All my trees are sugars, with no sign of budding yet.

Litltle guy -
As I found out today and others on this site have mentioned, your buds don't have to be open to get buddy sap. I took someone's suggestion and boiled just a 1/2 gallon of sap on the stove to check. Sure enough, buddy sap. Saved me allot of time gathering and boiling in the evaporator.
Unless ofcourse if you are making buddy syrup for wholesale.

The stuff made from yesterday was Light, and tasted fine. no off flavor, or smell. Not quite as strong a maple flavor though, I think it's going to turn in the next couple days. Oh well, a few hunder litres to be boiled for sugar then.:)

My father had to turn off the pumps when he got back from the Senators game last night - all the tanks were full or almost full! Gonna be a long day when there's over 2500 gallons of sap in the bush when you wake up in the morning!
