I am still waiting for my first run of the season. I had maybe 10 Gallons in collection tank that has been frozen for the last week or so. I tasted some of the sap and was off, not sweet, but nasty, rubber or some nasty off flavor.
I DID have a piece of garden hose on my Shurflo end going into collection barrel. Maybe it was the garden hose ?
If it was not the garden hose then my only other thing I can think of is rinsing the mainline.
I did get rid of the garden hose and used black water pipe, but no new sap to taste.
Does all new mainline and all new blue 5/16 have an off flavor with the first 10 gallons of sap that runs through? Garden hose?
