Ice that forms when sap is sits outside is simply water, correct? So I an just toss it to reduce the boil a bit?

Nature doesn't work quite the way, but yes you can. A very small amount of sugar will be in the ice. I've seen quotes by people here from .06% to .6%, probably depending on how much frozen the bucket was. It's a tiny amount that you would use a lot of fuel to recover. Most people just toss it.

Thanks. I will use it for his tim since this week's yield was on the low side.
Any idea how long 40 F sap would keep? How about frozen sap?
