Looking for info on building an oil fired arch. Not much info on line. Been looking for pictures of major manufactures designs but pictures only show outside of arch. Am thinking arch should not have up-slope going back. Am also thinking flame should be as long as practical. Evaporator is a 2x8 raised flue, have a Carlin 201 CRD 2.5-5.5 gph burner. Have read that efficiency increases when burner fires forward. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I dont know anything about building an oil tank arch but i've browsed the forum enough to know that there are more than a few post showing how guys built them...look through older posts in "homemade maple equipment" as well as "the evaporator, accessories and boiling on it." Good luck.

Building an arch is a lot of work, but in the end it could save you a lot of money. The one I made cost a little under $2000- Leaders price for the same kind was $10,000. Check out some of our older facebook post to see the progress. ~Marty

Hello,
I have been looking into the exact same size oil arch for over a year now, my friends and i, we are really good fab guys could build one if all dimensions and slopes and clearences are known, but getting those for each size arch are very difficult. The big guys will not give up the blueprints which is understandable. You could convert a wood arch, but they are NOT efficient with oil, and that is my main concern. With materials and labor, its almost worth it to buy a leader arch and be done with it because you know it will work. I got a price on one from leader about a month ago, and for $3944(2x8) it seems to be the way to go. Best of luck

Just built new reverse fired arch. Used Carlin 601 burner. Used Carlin installation manual and Phillips Homiller book "Oil firing for the maple sirup evaporator" as guidelines for building. Started new post "reverse fired arch" with photo if you would like to check it out.
