In the winter, we heat exclusively with our wood stove. We boil water on top to keep the humidity in the house up (my wife would get nose bleeds). Filling the pan manually was a pain and would often not get done.
As a maple boiler, I know:
- a lower depth would produce more steam
- a trickle inlet would keep from killing the boil
- that float boxes can maintain water depth, SO...
