Has anyone successfully modified or created a tool (double tube clamps) that works on both 3/16 and 5/16 tubing?

The LOAC tool works on both 5/16 + 3/16. I know others that have modified a 5/16 tool by gluing 5/16 tubing strips in the clamps, or by grinding down the clamps so they will close on the 3/16.

With the clamps super tight, the 3/16 will just barely slip out so I thought about grinding a hair off the clamps so they could be used for both 5/16 and 3/16 because i don't want to have to carry both in the bush. I was a little worried if I took too much off, there would be too much play with 5/16.

I modified my 5/16" double tool by splitting a short length of 5/16" tubing in half and taping each half in with electricians tape. Holds the 3/16" tubing well.

I don't think it is heavy compared to other 2 handed tools. The auto tension is a great feature and the teeth in the gripping area hold really well.

My 3/16 tool seems to work just fine on 5/16 with no modification i just have more of the tubing in front of the clamp than usual.

If anyone needs a tool, I make them. Either 5/16 or 3/16. And a good bit less than the "official" ones. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160321/de1bd1a4fe7f8dbee4c3d2ccbff471e0.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160321/9331baa8ad825dca090893fd40b18ffb.jpg

I use my LOAC 5/16 for both. I did alter the jaws a little. I filed away enough of the back edge of each jaw so the toe touched when closed. Before that the back would hit and prevent to toe from fully closing. It worked fine on 5/16, now it works real good on both. It does require some adjustment to change back and forth, but that only takes about 3-4 seconds on each jaw. I like it because it's so light and I now only need to carry 1 tool. some of my lines are 5/16 and some are 3/16 while all drops are 5/16. Only needing 1 tool for it all makes things far easier.

One of the kids at VTC just came up with a new design that actually won their design contest this year, but I haven't actually seen it yet.
