We are excited, but also kind of nervous. This weekend will be our first boil.

Looks nice! You will have some good syrup by the end of the weekend! Enjoy!

I thought that looked familiar! have so much fun- I have an older version of his 2x4 looks like the preheater now rests on the raised edges of the back pan. Mine sits inside on the dividers

Great looking set of pans. One thing that could be a issue is mixing of the syrup under the partitions that are only tacked and not fully welded? Try it and see what the gradient looks like in the channels.
Have fun with the new pans!

Chris

Get that preheater pan off of there. From what I've seen won't do much to raise the sap temp and will drip condensate back into your sap pan.

Brand new evaporator, no sugar shack (yet) and living on the side of a mountain, I really don't have many level spots. What's one to do? I went full Redneck and me and my buddy put this together last night. Prevailing winds come from behind and left side of house. Thoughts?

I did that. It works to keep rain off but depending in the amount of steam and how cold it is you may get condensation drips

Nice I would 45 or 90 the stack away from the house

I was hoping that by having the "roof" pitched towards the stack the steam would tend to flow away and any drips would run to the low side...?

Add another 90? You really think that will help it much?

Throw a 90 on the top away from the house. There will be sparks flying once she comes on the pipe.

>I was hoping that by having the "roof" pitched towards the stack the steam would tend to flow away

Nope. It's gonna depend on which way the wind blows. Can't alwas count on the prevailing.

OK, I understand now. I'll pick one up today.

Nope. It's gonna depend on which way the wind blows. Can't always count on the prevailing.

Where I have it is the calmest location on my property. The only time we get wind coming straight at the house is during a storm. It's not the ideal spot I guess, but it's the best I have this year... :-|

I added one more length of stack, put a 90 on it facing out, and added 4 guy lines to trip over!

Time to let it rip! and then adjust on the fly ( experiential learning!)

Good luck, have fun, take lots of pics and let us know how it goes!
