The trees are not running like they were the weather has been oddly warm. The next weeks forecast look like this will be the last week for maple syruping. I was able to produce a little over a gallon so far. I tapped January 29th I am finding that I have to boil down a lot more sap to get very little syrup. What do you guys think? Thanks KL

Thinking about taking taps out of the current trees and tapping other trees.. Good idea?

I sure hope not I've got alot invested in this season and haven't even got 15 gallons of SAP yet. It's been freezing around here and none of the sugar bushes around me are even tapped yet.

Over, please no so.
Not even started here in Ontario, border city to Michigan.
Looks like this weekend could be the start of our season, fingers crossed.

I have a feeling it's over for me in S. Pa. My trees were running ok on Sunday but not a drop since. Last two days about 60º. They're talking about 70 next week. My maple buds are beginning to open. I'll give it til the weekend and probably wrap it up.

Hi Evets.
I Googled your location to compare zones to see how far away you live.
Man oh man is that ever a nice location in the USA.

Despite the warm temps earlier this week, tonight I'll be in the low teens and probably won't make freezing tomorrow or Friday. With hard freezes on tap through Monday, I think the trees will have another run with the warmer temps next week. After that, it's up in the air. I tapped late so my taps my run a little later (I hope).
Of course, it's all location dependent. As was mentioned, some places haven't even started yet and while I'm having highs near 60° and lows in the 30s they will have highs near 50° and lows in the 20s.

We are in a decent spell right now, for a few days. My trees are running fairly good. This is my first year, and I am really enjoying this. After this coming weekend it isn't looking to promising though. By the way, southern part of Indiana here.

Yeah, it really is nice. I consider myself lucky to live here. Have a good season!

Cold spell again here again in CNY, Frozen sap and taps froze up again, still able to get a couple boils for a total of 1-1/2 gal. 1/2 pint on about 75 gal of sap. Have 35 waiting g to be boiled when it unthaws some. Hoping March is a good month, hard to imagine it being over now, seems like I was just getting going. Got things dialed in and now... think positive hopefully things will change. Best of luck to all

No. They won't do any better than the ones you have tapped now. Save them for next year and they won't have any unnecessary holes to avoid.

I sure hope the season isn't over. It's barely started here.

We are in western Kentucky. Today is March 5. I've got about 100 taps. I have only collected 10 gallons from sugar maples in the last 7 days. I believe our season is about over.

My trees are running ok today. I got 25 gallons or so since yesterday. It's going to really warm up next week so I'll probably pull my taps on Monday and boil whatever I get til then and wrap it up.

I collected about 25 gallons of sap last Sunday. Haven't had a drop since because of the cold. I may be able to collect some tomorrow and Monday but after that it is above freezing at night for the next week or so. I don't know how fast trees start to bud when the warm weather hits, but I'm guessing it won't be too long. Hopefully I'm wrong. I was hoping to double my production this year and make it to about 10 gallons of syrup. So far I have less than a 1/2 gallon. It's just a hobby for me and though it is frustrating to put the work in, I feel for those folks that rely on it as part of their income.

Hey Kev.
Heard you were doing some renovations to your sugar shack. How's the progress going?
