Having a tough time getting go here. Just poured a new concrete floor in the sugar shack. Moved the old evaporator (Betty is her name) reconnected the flue and fuel lines. Hope to start the R O tomorrow. Mitch my son has been boiling the past couple of days. Good luck to you all. Lee

Good luck to you as well. We've only put in 1/4 of our taps in case this is just a bit of a tease for the real season. Mother Nature is one heck of a mystery.

Should start boiling tomorrow. Just think last year we started on the 15 th of March. What a year we haven't even started and I am tired.

Last week I was second guessing myself on waiting this long to pour the concrete floor. The good news is it gave me time to put up fiberglass reinforced panels on the walls. Today my good friend and fellow sugar maker Barry stopped by and helped me Clean the RO. We fired the evaporator and sweetened the pans. Its nice to smell maple in the old sugar shack again. We are ready for the sap to start flowing.

Finally we have syrup. Pulled two gallons off tonight. Slight setback on old Betty the evaporator a piece of insulation broke off and was blocking half the flame on the oil gun. My Son and I pulled the rear pan and will be through bolting on it. Should be ready for a sap tsunami this week. Hope you are all doing well.

The evaporator is back in business. Now we need sap. The sugar shack looks good it is missing the key ingredient sap.lol Hope it happens tomorrow. Good luck. Lee

Sad day in the sugar shack not enough sap to start the evaporator. I had some sap to start the Ro not enough to let it run all night. Maybe tomorrow.

Hey there Smells! Thanks for serving...really..
It's tough to miss the sapping season, but I guess serving your country wins out on that one. And it does look bad with such warm temps, but we're hoping for the best. Today was a good day. 165 gls in the holding tank, 25 or so through the RO, and another 30 or so from the tubing run in another tank.

Thanks!! It's my pleasure! I made up for missing last year by making twice as much as I did the year before lol so I'm happy!

I guess the season is over for the Lavoie 's sugar shack crew. We thought we had a little more boiling in us tasted the syrup coming off the evaporator little off. Tomorrow we will start removing our taps. It wasn't our best year ,but we did make some good syrup considering we missed a couple of good runs. We will be going out to see some sugar shacks this weekend. Good luck to the rest of you. Lee

Heard the peepers last night. That is an indication the season is over. Start cleaning up and putting things away. It will be a little easier washing the walls and the floor this year. The hardest part about sugaring.
