Heres what i use for my vacuum gauge on my 3/16 gravity runs.
I am cost effective some may say cheap but i like cost effective.
I have 7 3/16 gravity lines running thru the woods and only need 1 vacuum gauge.
I have adapted a 1/4 inch hose onto my gauge.

I have 1 of those black adaptors on each 3/16 line and mark the tree with marker tape.

Clever. I wasn't planning to bother with checking the vacuum, but that seems pretty cheap. How long does it take for the reading to come up to max after plugging the tap into the guage line?

I was thinking about doing this myself, but I scrapped the idea. I just figured that I'd lose vaccum in the line when i plugged/unplugged. That doesn't affect things?

It only takes a couple seconds to make the change so only a small plug of air gets in the line.
It takes about a min. To reach full vacuum reading.
I like it to be able to do a check on the vacuum without walking the whole line to check for damage.

Makes sense. One minute is tolerable.

How much slope do you have? You should be getting more than 15" of vacuum.

I only have about 20-25 foot of slope, the line in the picture was from a line with about 22 foot of slope the trees were not running well temp was right around 33 deg.
