I thought the day would have been better, but I am happy with the 12 gallons of sap that I did get. I will start my first boil tomorrow morning. Hopping the sap will run all night so my buckets will be full in the morning. It started to flow pretty good this afternoon in a few of my trees. Most of my trees are deep in the woods but do get a little sun.

My best runs often are during the night.

billdean I am in Sanford and it was still running just now at 10PM its slowed down but the wind has died. Some will stop but expect others to run. Collect in the morning as tomorrow is looking to be a nice day for a big run. Don't let it overfill wasted sap is worse then anything in the world. I would rather dump a case of beer on the ground then an ounce of sap. :) Then again I don't drink beer anyhow. LOL

If the temperature stays above freezing it will run all night. The question is how long will it run the next day. If it warms up too fast or gets too warm it could shut down. If the temperature stays down it could run until you get another freeze. I've seen it run for up to 72 hours before. WESTVIRGINIAMAPLER posted that his trees just ran for 7 days without a freeze but I'm sure the vacuum from the taps he has on 3/16" had something to do with that.

Well.........to answer my own question some trees did. Others shut down early today while others are still doing well. Its had to figure out just exactly what the heck those trees are going to do. Some taps I thought would have full buckets didn't, others I was really surprised at. All total today around 24 gallons.

Bill, we are just north/east of you between Harrison n Gladwin and we had the exact same thing. Had 20 taps in and all ran good and then tapered off this afternoon. We drilled a few more back in the woods and they are still flowing this evening, we have a total of 44 taps in now. Bad thing is, the weather is changing and it don't look like we are going to get another good day till next weekend. Hoping my collected sap will be thawed to boil next weekend!

Expect a run tomorrow too. Not as much but some. I managed 68 gallons today.
Last draw was 5:30 PM. Most were slowing down but I dont doubt some will go all night tonight and kick in again tomorrow. Likely about half what I got today.
I am running 100 3/16 taps on tubing down to the buckets so I don't draw as much as others with my smaller taps. I am sitting at 175 gallons so far though. 30% of what I did last year.
