I'm new to this and last year i boiled in a 2'x2' pan on cement blocks. This year i am making a unit from an oil drum. I'm going to attempt to make a flue pan and a syrup pan. what size should i make each one. the tank is roughly 27" widex5' long. Thanks for any advice.

Here's a visor of the one I made. https://youtu.be/whRR8BlfocY
I extended it to accommodate a 2x6 setup.
That's probably the best advice I could give you. That way you can fit standard size pans on it.
Go with a 4' flue and a 2' syrup pan.
Another bit of advice, I made mine with only 1/2" of bearing on each side of the pan. That was a mistake. When she really gets rolling the pan tends to "wander" and it's hard to keep gasket under it.
