Yesterday we had 36 degrees and I turned on the vacuum pump for over an hour but the releaser only got barely over 3 gal of sap, so I shut it off. Now today I turned on the pump earlier and I got about 5 gal in 20 minutes so I'm leaving it on. Today might be day 1 this season for me, I'll go check about noon. Then tomorrow the high will be in the low 20's. Sat is iffy, but Sunday thru next Friday look real good. I might be off to the races maybe starting Sunday. I don't think I'll get enough today to start up, but it will keep til Sunday OK with the cold temps in between.

Hi Dave,
Is Oneida near Syracuse? I'm about an hour south near Binghamton and here the sap ran all night last night. Weird weather yesterday, sap flow was pretty slow all day but started to pick up just before dark as the temps rose into the 50's and stayed there all night. Thunder and lightning and rained cats and dogs for a while. Nothing like some folks went through with all the tornados and stuff, but pretty wild for Feb. But all my 5 gal buckets were nearly full this afternoon and were nearly empty same time yesterday. Now it just started snowing, temps dropping and going to be cold the next couple days like you said. I think it's time for my first boil tomorrow or Friday if tomorrow is too cold.

Yes, Oneida is about 25 miles due East of Syracuse. It turned out I got vary little today. It looks like a good maple forecast for Sunday-Friday next week. Will get nothing Fri and maybe nothing Saturday.
