Old new jugs

I have a box of plastic jugs that are new and never used but are a couple years old. Can I put them in the dishwasher to make sure they're clean before canning in them?

If the box isn't opened and they are clean, just use them.

I can't tell you the best way to handle them. Maybe some hot water and a good bottle brush is all you need. I would not put them in the dishwasher. I've tried that with glass bottles and soap has a tendency to cake on the inside because the narrow necks don't allow for a good rinse. You'd never be able to see that in a plastic jug and the dishwasher will not rinse them as well as you might think.
