Some crazy weather . Did any one get a good run last night. If so in leaving work to check my buckets. One of the few advantages working for your self.

Had 150 gallons off 80 taps and checked them again this morning to make sure the bags didn't fly away and they were half full again.

My 350-gallon tank will be overflowing by tomorrow. Boiled for a while last night and come tomorrow afternoon we'll boil straight through the weekend. May just sleep in the sugar shack!

I usually only boil down on weekends but had to take today off work to boil since I was concerned the temperature was too warm last night and into today to wait. Its been collecting since last Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately my green firewood is not getting up to temperature and I'll probably only finish half of my sap. Hopefully it lasts till this Saturday or Sunday.

I usauly freeze some sap blocks and put them in my barrels. I also keep the sap in the garage out of the Sun. It definitely keeps my sap fresh during weather like this

Hi Just wondering, we boiled out our first tap of 14 trees last week on a makeshift wood burner in the back yard. Got about a gallon, but there is a smoky taste... not bad but it definitely masks the good maple taste. How can i avoid this smoky taste when we are cooking with wood? Any advice appreciated! this is our second year tapping,,,, lots to learn!

Sounds familiar. Our first year was outside. Syrup tasted of smoke. Not much to do except a taller stack pipe. We need that real quick and put up a sap house with a half punt. Been through a few evaporators since then.
