maple flats

After making some improvements and tightening a little more, I turned on my vacuum today. The overnight low was 33 and it was up to 36 at the time. I let it run for over an hour. I was getting 25" of vacuum at the releaser and 23" at the far end of the main. In that hour the releaser only dumped once and it only dumps 3 gal batches. The second batch had only added about 1 qt in the releaser tank. Vacuum still at 25". I then shut it off, must not be ready yet. I think the ground here is still frozen too deep. We had some hard freezes before any snow , it is now gone, but I only have mud about 1/4" deep, the rest is still hard. In the woods in areas where I still have some snow cover, there are no rings melted around the trees. I've heard you won't get much sap until the trees have a ring melted around them.
