Temperature Gauge

I set up my new 2x6 evaporator last night. One thing that I noticed that concerns me is that when I thread in the temperature gauge on the draw off box the end of the gauge touches the bottom of the syrup pan. It this normal or will It give me an inaccurate reading?

Usually you want it up off the bottom 1/4" or so you could probably use a compression fitting to make it shorter that's how my probe is set up.
