Im doing small amounts of syrup in my rookie year and my first batch i filtered my final boil after it cooled to about room temp and was very nice looking syrup.
Today made second batch and used same filter fabric, but filtered right after boiling and was cloudy.
Refiltered when at room temp and was good looking.
Does this seem normal?

Yes if you filter above about 195 the product can still form niter which is that cloudy sediment ,so just let it cool a little after boiling then filter hot but not to hot and bottle should be good,it's happened to us all at one time! Good luck and enjoy the addiction!!!

Hmm So filtering off of the syrup pan into holding pot is not wise? Or as long as its filtered again before bottling?

What kind of filter are you using ? If you syrup is at 67 brix it won't filter at room temp. Syrup should be 190/200 deg f to filter. Nitre will start when syrup starts to boil. If you are using a orlon filter conetype use 6 or 7 paper pre filters inside that and pull out 1 At a time as they plug . hang them over the filter tank to drip and then rinse them back into flue pan don't rinse the inside just rinse the syrup out. Don't presoak the filter in SAP or water it will effect your brix reading .
Good luck and I hope this helps

What is the proper temp for final filtering to prevent cloudiness?

What is the proper temp for final filtering to prevent cloudiness?

Syrup should be filtered and hot packed into containers between 180-190 deg F. If you're using glass, it is good to preheat it so the proper temperature is maintained until the container is sealed.

Thanks Tim. First batch was a little cloudy. Filtered right away as it came off finishing pan .....,
Will wait til temp drops as advised.

Tom, what type of filter at 180-190 deg?
Im using orlon filter, but i cant get clear product when filtered at that temperature...only at lower temps like 80 deg.?
But then so slow syrup is cold by time filtering done...
