My motor burned up on my Surge transfer pump last Wednesday and I still wanted to get sap over the weekend until my new motor came.
So ,I had a Bender I had bought a couple of years ago that I broke out to use temporarily. Photo one shows my first endeavor, which all you Bender experts
will agree with. It's not going to work , because I have the vacuum hose(red) hooked on the side instead of the top. In the second photo, I moved
the hose to the top and replaced the tee with an 1" swing valve on the bottom. Notice in the photo the 1" to 3/4" reducer and appr. ten inch 3/4 pipe on the bottom of the swing valve. At first I didn't have the reducer and pipe on the bottom ,and the float would only fall about 1/3 of the way and the rod would drop and it would dump. good enough for temporary use. Well, I put the 55 gallon drum under it and and thought, I'll just stick this reducer and pipe on the bottom of the swing valve. Much to my surprise, the float then fell the whole way down and then the rod tripped, giving a full dump. I can't understand why , putting a
restriction on the swing valve would cause it to empty completely, but was then fully satisfied with its operation. I read almost all the posts on Bender troubles
and don't believe I saw this anywhere. I hope this helps someone else that has problems getting one to work. By the way, It didn't miss a beat all weekend
at least giving me enough sap to pay for my new motor!!
