Hey everyone. Here in CT this past weekend we had a nice sap run. Ive collected close to 250 gallons.

Heres my question. Its my 2nd season and I have upgraded to a 2x4 flue and a 2x2 syrup pan system. Its a continuous flow. I do not have a ball valve between pans. They are just plumbed together. Do I need a ball valve ?? or just let it flow and draw off my syrup as needed.

2. my pans are dead level front to back. side to side they are 1/8 -1/4 " to the left( side where pans are connected.). is that a problem? shuld I shim to make level.
Getting nervous as tomorrow I will fire it up. Just making last minute checks. THANKS!!

You don't need a valve. Would be nice for when you shut down to keep syrup and sap separate. As long as your fluid level is enough, the tilt won't hurt. Should be easy to shim the arch though.

Can you devise a plug on a handle that you could insert into line of the ports from the inside?

that is what we have. we just plug the port when we shut down for the night with a cork screwed to a piece of stainless for a handle

I did let it just mix. Started up and boiled..then added fresh sap.

Hi Pauly Are your pans connected on both sides? If they are you have to leave the side you draw off on plugged. Any pictures?
