Last year my setup was a 55 gal barrel that sat vertical with the sap pan setting on top, there were 2 notches cut in the rim to hold the pan. My question is what is the minimum or optimum distance that the fire should be from the bottom of the pan, I think mine was to far, to many times my sap was just simmering.
