This is my second year with maple syrup and am putting up some 3\16 tubing. I am hooked ! I have a situation where we would like to cross a much traveled farm lane. I have about a 3 % grade. Can I run the 3\16 inside a 3\4 black poly pipe that would be inside a 2 inch pvc and buried a foot deep ? Will the sap freeze and not get thawed out ? Is there a way to make a quick disconnect for that small hose and leave it above ground ? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks, Ron.

I know they make a quick disconnect for 5/16. You could transition to 5/16 for the disconnect.

That idea sounds much better and cheaper than mine. Thank You, and also thanks to this forum and the members, I've learned a lot about this new hobby/ enterprise ? ! Ron

I would need to go up at least 10 feet and That would be higher than my last tap. I will check out the video, Thanks.

Yes, going up 10' may be higher than your last tap/tree but you regain the drop on the other side of the lane. Once the line is full the vacuum should remain.

I have several 3/16" lines that go up above the tap to cross a trail, then drop back down. They go up about 10'. I also have additional taps coming into the line after it crosses the trail. It works great, I have strong vacuum throughout the line. I prefer this over burying lines as I like to be able to visually monitor my entire line.

Thanks for all the replies. I plan on trying this after I get more pressing problems solved. I am busy reading the threads above about vacuum levels, fixing leaks, and what an air bubble should and shouldn't look like ! I've just eyeballed the fall of my first 2 lines and am pretty sure I don't have enough fall to get my vacuum levels up higher. My third line that I should get done today will definitely have the 30 ' of fall needed after the last tap. Ron.
