Overall I can't complain.
I had the new evaporator and new sugar shack and it gave me time to fix some things and make adjustments, plug leaks in the evaporator, reline it with fire blanket, etc.....
For the early run I got 340 gallons of sap, all of which was barely over 1% sugar content. I ended up with 5 gallons of syrup though. Tastes great and now when the real season starts I will be good to go.
The new evaporator is boiling at close to 20 GPH. Im happy with that considering its a flat pan. I did end up using a lot more wood than I had expected and now that may be a concern going forward, thankfully there doesn't seem to be a shortage of guys selling pine on craigslist. I just hope i can get some and its seasoned.
Now for a few weeks break and then we can get back at it for real!
