No idea what changed from the last week til today but I am having a heck of a time getting the flapper on a single mechanical releaser to seal today. It did freeze hard last night and I cleaned ice out this morning. It worked perfectly for a week now all of a sudden it wont seal. I tried tightening the screws a little on the top but no difference. Releaser is level so that's not it. I don't see any cuts in flapper. Any ideas?

Does it seal if you hold the flapper? I'm not sure what releaser you have, but one time my double gave me a hard time on one side and it was because mechanism wasn't quite lining causing a leak. If I remember right I had to adjust the linkage just a little bit.

It seats if i push really hard on flapper. Its really strange. Maybe the ice deformed the flapper
Its a lapierre

How old is the releaser? I have 5 mechanical single Lapierre releasers and I had problems with the flappers not sealing. About 5 or 6 years ago, I changed all of the flappers to a different style and they work perfect now.

Does this model have a flapper on the outside of the chamber and one on the inside downstream of the manifold the mainlines come into? If so the inner flapper may be stuck or the mechanism that trips the releaser may not be working correctly and the inner flapper is staying shut.

Releaser is only a year old. What style did you change to? This has the blue u shaped flapper with two screws at the top holding it to cylinder

Is the air temperature at your releaser location somewhat above freezing? I have had trouble when a drop of water froze to the "seat" that the flapper seals to.
Also, I noticed when the flapper is froze, it doesn't have enough flexibility to seal. In other words, it's like the flapper is made of steel or wood.
It's compounded because my releaser is inside a building in the woods, where it stays colder a bit longer inside than outside.

Sometimes instead of tightening the screws its better to loosen them a little. The flapper tends to deform a little if you over tighten it. I just put new ones on mine and that was the case.

I've also had problems in the past if a drop froze to the face of the flapper. Once it was the internal flapper on a double vertical (BHR). I don't have any singles, do they have an internal flapper too?

Maplewalnut, I looked at my releaser and they have a piece of white pvc pipe glued into the outlet about 1 1/4" or so long, with the flapper attached at the top to another square piece of pvc. The flapper style that I installed sounds similar to yours, blue, round with a "u" shaped top with 2 screw holes. I think that newer Lapierre releasers have a milled flat spot where the flapper attaches to the canister instead of the 1 1/4" pvc pipe extension. I looked in my discarded parts box for the old flappers, but could not find any.

I wish I could have found the old style flappers, because I had to change the ones inside the canister also.
