What's the easiest way to put a valve between the drop flue pan and the syrup pan? I think I'd like the put one there so I can close it, draw off all of the sweet in the flue pan, fill the flue pan w water, and boils off the rest of the sweet in the syrup pan. Just planning ahead for the end of the season. I have the sanitary locking connections now.

I looked into that and it was expensive. I just bought a silicone plug on a handle. When I want I plug empty the front pan and clean it

Thanks for the reply. Can you take a pic of what you use and where you got it?

My rig is piped and valved on both sides, which allows me to reverse the flow with just a very few changes. I thought they were all set up that way.

For a drop flue pan you are looking for a drain line that runs across the bottom of the flues. A drain at the top (between the pans) will not let you drain the pan.

I do have the drain line that runs across the bottom of the flues to a valve where I can drain the pans. So I am set there.
What I want is a valve between the pans so I can stop the flow from the flue pan to the syrup pan.

Use a plug.

What kind of plug and where can I get one?

If these pans arw new, it should have come with a plug. If reversible, a plug for each side.

Most any maple equipment dealer can get you a pan plug. It is just tapered aluminum plug on a handle that will fit snug onto the transfer pipe hole. New ones are probably silicone.

What do you use now when you shut down for the day to keep the front pan from diluting and the entire rig going to the same sugar levels? You should be blocking between the pans between boils . This will also help prevent making syrup in the back pan on the next startup .

Thanks a lot for the reply. This was exactly what I needed. This is my first year on a flue and syrup pan - have only boiled on a continuous flow pan before.
Turns out I need a 1.5in plug. This is a new evaporator and pans but it didn't come with plugs. I will have to look around for the 1.5 size. Thanks again, really appreciate it.
