Hi folks,

Had a surprise yesterday. I was at work when WABI TV called and wanted to do an interview with me :o, so I decided to share it. Follow the link below.

Nice interview and I'm glad the press is branching out for those unusual stories. They always wait till Maple Sunday, and they need to get out there and let people see the work being done to get to that day. My 70 taps are all out, and I made 2 quarts so far.

12 x 24 sugar shack
17 buckets
53 taps on 5/16 gravity
homemade R.O. and vacuum pump
416 cat backhoe
99 artic cat

Hey Shawn, that was great. Like Mitchman said, nice to see some coverage of the maple industry before there is syrup in the tanks. It will certainly build the anticipation in your area. Good luck this year.

It's always interesting to see how poorly dressed reporters are for a walk in the bush. Nice interview!

Thanks for asking. I've only had two average sized boiling sessions this season so far, but have made 6 quarts of nice syrup. The weather is truly bizarre this year. While many of the soft maples that I tap are starting to flower, the sugars still look promising. Some of my most reliable soft maples didn't give me a single drop of sap. Temperatures are supposed to be good for the next two weeks, so the jury is still out on what will become of the 2016 season.

Our Red Maples aren't doing much, but the sugars are still going. Next week looks good. Freezes every night until Thursday. It could be the end of the season for us, because some of those reds look like they are going to bud. We'll pull the reds, and keep going until it's over.
