FYI - TO ALL DIY'S

low cost OR FREE ALTERNATIVE to fire brick....... old red clay brick..... dont take my word for it ......GOOGLE IT
you can also cut these in half with a concrete blade or tile saw for walls where the thickness cannot accept a full 3 inch brick.

CERAMIC BLANKET ALTERNATIVE???????? I have taken 2x4 ROXUL insulation, split it in half and used it UNDER the fire brick to insulate my arch. so far so good. wont burn up to 2200 degrees....most of us will never get to.

try it on you pan rails in place of the blanket strips or rope.

CHEAP ALTERNATIVES if you have a small budget or just wanna do it with what you have around.

hope that helps some of you working on a project. helped me.

I was planning to use roxul... any tips for using it as insulator for the top half of a barrel evaporator? I'm not sure how to keep it attached to the barrel.

Usually just friction but a coat hanger or higher gauge wire may last a season if temps are not to hot.

I used Roxul last season in a barrel. it lasted the entire season no damage.

Ceramic blanket is rated at about 2300-2400 F. Assuming they are rating them comparatively, what are the advantages of the more costly ceramic blanket?

I think this is the perfect solution I was looking for to help cheaply insulate my concrete block setup this year. Thanks!
